We are Truth & Record

This work was born from many years in the Black liberation space. From that experience grew a passion for learning and uplifting the untold stories that make up American history. In a time where our past is being actively suppressed to present a sanitized and more palatable version, we believe this work has never been more important. We are building an accessible database filled with first person interviews and archival research that tells our real history.

Our Values

TRUTH

We honor and preserve authentic first-person narratives as an essential testimony to history.

JUSTICE

We commit to advancing reparations and systemic change rooted in historical accountability.

HEALING

We recognize storytelling as a pathway to repair, reconciliation, and generational restoration.

PRESERVATION

We safeguard stories and archives to ensure that lived experiences are never forgotten or erased.

COMMUNITY

We center the voices of those most impacted and build collective power through solidarity.

INTEGRITY

We approach our work with transparency, respect, and responsibility to the communities we serve.

What do Reparations mean to us?

We follow the United Nations Human Rights Commission four pillars of reparations: Restitution, Compensation, Rehabilitation, and Satisfaction. Truth & Record seeks to support this vision by focusing on Satisfaction:

“Satisfaction… should include the cessation of continuing violations, truth-seeking, search for the disappeared person or their remains, recovery, reburial of remains, public apologies, judicial and administrative sanctions, memorials, and commemorations.”
